Blake Fewster

The St. James Westminster Church community joins family and friends in remembering and celebrating the life, while mourning the loss, of Blake Fewster, who passed away at home on January 11, 2017 in his 93rd year. Blake is lovingly remembered by Jo, his wife of 66 years, and by his children Andrea Manias (Dale), Peter Fewster (Dianne), Pat Fewster (Al Gray), and Tim Fewster (Dianne). Blake – “Grumpa” – is also mourned by his grandchildren Mark, Laura, Stephanie, Rebecca Klein (Andrew), Greg, Brent (Heidi Wall), Chris Lengyell (Gita), Taylor Gray, Krystal Murphy (Troy) and Blake, and by his great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Born in Tillsonburg, Blake enjoyed a distinguished career at London Life, retiring in 1991 as Senior Vice-President and Chief Actuary. Blake also served as
President of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries.
At St. James, where Andrea, Tim and their families serve as faithful parishioners, Blake was a Warden and also Chair of the St. James Westminster Foundation. In addition to the church, Blake’s passions included his family, music and travel; he and Jo hiked widely, including to their favourite destination, Hadrian’s Wall in England, where they were once accosted by Romans in full battle gear, apparently in a re-enactment.
Blake will be greatly missed in the St. James community and beyond, and most of all by his family. As he said in an interview in the Chimes, when asked the secret of raising a happy and peaceful family, “Lots of give and take. I don’t know, someone from the outside world would have to observe and say. We just lived our life.”
