Parishioners are invited to identify their favourite hymns for recording and posting by Stephen Holowitz, invited musicians, and Paul Grambo.
This week, Susan Collins says ” ‘The King of Love My Shepherd Is‘, a choral rendition of the 23rd Psalm, resonates in my heart. I was just 13 when my father died and this hymn was played at his funeral. On August 29, 2016, the same hymn was sung at my step-mother’s funeral and it felt full circle. Like the Psalm, the hymn offers comfort within a gentle tune that doesn’t overtax the singer. With lines like “but yet in love he sought me, and on his shoulder gently laid and home rejoicing brought me,” one feels wrapped in the arms of the father.” In this rendition, Shen Jones is the guest clarinetist.
