Planning Your First Visit?

We would be glad to welcome you. Here’s what you can expect.

What to Expect

We gather here to do the work of the people; to share the table and our hearts.  As we join together in praise and thanksgiving, we are being invited into the household of God.

We hope that you will engage in whatever way you feel comfortable, and allow this special time together to inspire and transform you.

We know trying something new is tough, and going into a new place is hard, but we hope you will feel a warm welcome at St James Westminster.

Questions Visitors Often Ask

What should I expect at a service?

Our 8:30 Sunday service is our most traditional service.  It uses the original Anglican Prayer Book, the Book of Common Prayer, which we have been using in some form in the Anglican Church since the mid-1500s.  So be prepared to hear dost and propitiation, and for it to be quieter with a classic feel.

Our 10:30 Sunday service hosts our wonderful choir and is the more contemporary of the two Sunday services.  It also has our Children's Programming and a coffee hour afterwards.

If you're looking for something a little more off the beaten path and wish to have some great theological discussion, our 10 am on Wednesday might be what you're seeking. This is a smaller group service with lots of lively conversation and a more relaxed feel.

Are there opportunities for socializing?

Yes! We're so glad you asked. Coffee hour happens most Sundays after the 10:30 service, and is a great place to get to know others. As well, St James Westminster hosts many events that will allow you to check out the church in a more social setting.

Check our calendar for upcoming events or contact the office for details.

Do I need to be Anglican to come?

Not at all. We welcome any and all seekers, from those just starting their faith journey to those who have long established traditions.

To participate in Communion you do need to be baptised, but you are more than welcome to come forward to receive a blessing or just stay in your seat.

You may notice that we move around a lot. This is Church Calisthenics! But feel free to participate in the way that makes you feel best and closest to God.

And if you're not sure, you can always ask the person sitting next to you, we're more than happy to help you figure out what is going on.

What about a special event? Like a baptism, funeral, or wedding?

If you're a guest or attendee of one of these events, please feel welcome to participate or not as you see fit. We will give explicit instructions, as we understand every place is different. If you're interested in having one of these events, contact the office for more information.
