What Worship Is Like With Us

Every Sunday we offer worship that is beautiful, thoughtful, and deeply Anglican, whether through the ancient and quiet reverence of the early service or the uplifting and engaging worship of our principal service we believe the Church should be a place of joy, where children are celebrated, questions are welcomed, friendships are formed, and faith is lived together.

Our Worship Tradition

Common worship in the Anglican Church is rooted through the Book of Common Prayer, unifying liturgical practices since the 16th century. Over the centuries, the prayer book has evolved and been adapted to reflect local contexts and theological developments, maintaining its foundational role while embracing diversity across the Anglican Communion.

Liturgy

M

Liturgy lies at the heart of Anglican worship. Through Scripture, prayer, sacrament, and song, we share in a rich pattern of worship shaped by generations of Christians. Grounded in the Book of Alternative Services and the Book of Common Prayer, our liturgy connects us with the wider Anglican Communion and the Church throughout the ages while proclaiming the timeless Gospel in today's world.

Prayers

M

Prayer is at the heart of our worship. Through ancient prayers, shared responses, silence, and the prayers of the people, we join our voices with Christians across the world and throughout the ages, bringing before God our thanksgivings, our needs, and the needs of the world.

Readings

M

Each Sunday we hear readings from the New Revised Standard Version of the Bible, following the Revised Common Lectionary. This shared cycle of Scripture unites us with Anglican and many other Christian churches around the world, ensuring that we are formed by the whole story of God's saving work rather than by individual preference.

Music

M

Music has always been an essential part of Anglican worship. Through hymns, choral music, and instrumental offerings, we give voice to our praise and deepen our prayer. Congregational singing is an act of worship open to everyone—whether you sing confidently or simply with a joyful heart. At St. James Westminster, we are blessed with a rich and diverse musical tradition, embracing a variety of styles that enrich our worship while drawing us together in praise of God.
