Music plays a vital role in both the worship and social life here at St. James Westminster. Our organist and music director, Stephen Holowitz, has been at St. James Westminster since 2001. Stephen brings an eclectic mix of musical styles to our services, from Anglican and Latin chant, to traditional motets and anthems, to contemporary gospel and worship songs. Our services seek to incorporate a variety of music to deepen our collective prayer and praise.
We are fortunate to have many local musicians, both amateur and professional, who share their talents with us during Sunday services. We welcome students to participate as their time will allow, and we are thrilled to have many guest instrumentalists visit us during the year.
We are particularly pleased with our outreach to three groups in particular. The choral groups regularly rehearse and perform at St. James and all three groups presents wonderful concerts in our sanctuary.
- Brassroots, which is a 12 piece brass and percussion ensemble.
- Conspirato, which is a chamber choir geared towards young adults.
- The London Opera Guild, which is an association dedicated to the encouragment of opera and especially to help provide support for the Canadian Opera Company.
NOTE: The garden concert series described below is currently suspended due to COVID 19. We hope to resume in the summer of 2023.
Through the month of July, each Monday evening from 7:30- 8:30 pm is reserved for our popular series of Garden Concerts. A variety of local musical groups are featured each year in our beautiful Memorial Garden on Askin Street. In the event of rain the concerts are held in the church.
